Adelaide is the beautiful capital of South Australia. This coastal city was founded in 1846 on land originally occupied by the Kaurna people and named for the consort of King William IV, Queen Adelaide. Adelaide is located between the eastern shore of Gulf St. Vincent and the Mount Lofty Ranges and north of the Fleurieu Peninsula. The city of Adelaide was originally laid out by Colonel William Light in a grid-pattern featuring wide streets to accommodate easy travel throughout the city.

The gorgeous rolling hills of Adelaide lend this city beauty and have become an ideal location for local vineyards. There are nine distinctive wine regions within an hour and a half of Adelaide, each featuring a unique blend of soil and altitude to create exceptional varieties of wine.

Adelaide attracts a considerable influx of both national and international tourists every year, drawn by its reputation for hosting a large number of arts and music festivals.

The city’s geographical position, situated almost midway between the major population settlements to the south east and south west coasts, makes it an important stopover and meeting point for travellers.

To cater for travellers visiting or passing through the city, there are a large number of hotels in Adelaide of varying standards. For shorter stopovers there are a number of hotels situated within a close vicinity of Adelaide International Airport. Many are within easy access of the freeways and expressways connecting Adelaide to the rest of the country.

Of course, Adelaide offers its visitors wishing to stay more than a few nights a large number of attractions and places of interest. These include the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, the Art Gallery of South Australia and Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

For those able to travel further out of the city, its position within prime wine country affords spectacular rural landscapes, with its many vineyards offering wine tasting for would be connoisseurs. There area also more natural landscape attractions of the Belair National Park and Cleland Conservation Park.
