TAFE SA English Language Services hopes to organise classes in Bordertown to be held at the local TAFE campus off of Naracoorte Road.

Of course, to be feasible, at least 24 people need to show interest in the classes which would be run as part of the Adult Migrant English Program according to program coordinator Ms Sarah Dumuid.

“At the moment we have about 12 people interested, but we really need at least double that number, especially because we would be setting up a brand new program, ” Ms Dumuid said.

ELS already runs English classes at Naracoorte through funding from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).

Ms Dumuid said they may even look at hosting evening classes in Bordertown to suit the various hours worked by people.

TAFE SA ELS has the state wide contract to deliver English classes throughout SA.

Currently ELS offers Certifi cate 1-3 in Spoken and Written English.

To apply for the ‘free’ course, applicants must first have their eligibility determined by the Registrar at ELS, who can be contacted on (08) 8226 6555.

“The Language and Settlement course is not just about learning English, it also helps students learn about Australian culture and our way of life, ” Ms Dumuid said.

“We look at the skills and knowledge people new to the country need.”
